there is a lot of cyberbullying
Social media is a safe place for youth and young people. But it is also a very dangerous place. Social media is able to teach people many things that are positive or negative.
I feel like it can be a safe place, but I also feel depending on the usage it can be a very dangerous and harmful place. There are three sides: a beautiful, refreshing, and safe platform, or a dangerous, harmful, and hateful platform. There can also be one that is mixed with both. I feel like social media is continuously a mix of both.
I think personally social media isn’t a really safe space speaking from experience. I had to take action to get myself away from social media because I was driving my mind crazy trying to edit photos and look like someone I’m not. I believe social media is toxic and I have younger siblings I try to guide myself to get them off social media.
I feel like social media is sometimes a safe place for youth and young people. Although it allows us to connect with a diverse range of people and join communities that align with our various identities, the infinite amount of content it exposes us to facilitates a culture of comparison and poor self-esteem. Eliminating the toxic systems that facilitate this culture will help increase my confidence in social media's potential to be a safe and productive space for young people to engage and thrive.
I don’t feel like social media is a safe place for young people. I’ve said this in a previous voice memo for question one where I feel like social media can have positive and negative ways about it but ultimately I don’t think that is a safe place at least now and the day that we live in. I remember a time where kids didn’t have phones. We were kind of forced to go outside and play and go to the park. Go to our local rec center. Find other kids on the block, ride our bikes around the block, now you hardly see kids outside and if you do, it’s rare. I feel like social media it kinda alters our brain a little bit and hard to focus. Social media is what it is and it’s very negative sometimes especially the side of social media that I am on.

I feel that social media is not the safest place for youth and young people. There is a lot of cyberbullying and not enough monitoring what young people post. Because of this, it makes it a lot less safer and beyond that, people like to stalk and hack so it isn't very safe.
I think it’s a mini Russian roulette; you never know what results you’ll get. Fun, of course, but safe? Absolutely not.
I feel that social media is a safe place for youth and young people as long as people utilize it correctly and take everything 'with a grain of salt'. Nothing on social media should be taken completely seriously unless you can verify the source as reliable and accurate, and if you utilize social media with that mindset, I believe that you can use social media safely. Again, I want to reiterate that it depends on how you use social media, so you must always be cautious when using it in a way that protects yourself and your mental health foremost.
I feel that social media can be both safe and unsafe for youth. It can be safe because youth can create and foster their own communities where they feel seen and understood. However, it can be unsafe because social media allows people to hide their real identities. This can be problematic because people won't be held accountable for their actions online.
I think it depends on one maturity level and what age they start to utilize them. It is hard to say because there are SO many sides to social media but I believe it CAN be a safe space for young people as long as we monitor their behavior. As long as we try to minimize the hate I think it would be best.
Yes! If used correctly, social media can be a beautiful explosion of creativity and community that provides an outlet for many who may not feel safe in their physical spaces. For LGBTQ+ youth, social media may be a place of affirmation or for those who may struggle with body positivity, in the right places social media can help convey the great diversity of bodies and help them grow their self-confidence and self-love. This only works if the user has a safe and positive mindset. Social media pushes videos we react to, so youth must be in a healthy mindset to reap the benefits of social media and feel safe.
It depends on which social media it is, but it may be different. There may be some safe spaces for youth like games but youth and young people could be exposed to shocking messages or imagery. I think that if you ethically use social media, it could be safe.
